Indonesian Association for Forest Concession Holders said in a statement that forest moratorium that the government has just issued brought benefits to their products in the global market.
“Given the Presidential Instruction on Indonesian’s log prices, [forest’s] processed products will improve. The moratorium causes companies to gain more profits,” said Chairman of Indonesian Association for Forest Concession Holders of Riau, Endro Siswoko, on Sunday.
Endro said the Presidential Instruction should not be interpreted negatively in the first place. He cited the current tsunami and earthquake in Japan, which had been predicted of seriously affecting Indonesia’s export of logs.
On the contrary, domestic log-processing industry could not keep up well with the demand from Japan.
“The moratorium may enable business people to get incentives as well as premium prices through the offered products,” he said.
